Legends of The Sky
The PBY Catalina, or more specifically, the "Black Cats," were a squadron of bomber aircraft that revolutionized nighttime operations during World War II. The PBY's versatility—capable of landing on water or conventional runways—made it an invaluable asset in reconnaissance and search-and-rescue operations. It was repurposed for stealth missions and became known as the aggressor, savior, and supplier in the Pacific Theater of Operations. The Black Cats were characterized by their matte black paint, allowing them to blend into the night sky as they executed low-flying missions against enemy vessels. A full moon was the ideal time for flight, as it illuminated the phosphorus wake, allowing pilots to spot enemy ships more clearly. The Black Cats—comprised of 14 squadrons—played a crucial role by damaging or sinking enemy cargo ships.
FINISH
The matte black finish on the case, bezel, and bracelet enhances the watch's luminous elements, blending seamlessly into the night sky, reminiscent of the stealthy Black Cats aircraft.
MOVEMENT
The T43 PBY Catalina “Black Cat” features a Swiss moonphase movement, highlighting different lunar phases that reflect the moon's significance in aiding the Black Cats ability to spot enemy ships at night.
