Amelia Earhart - American aviation pioneer (1897-1937)

Amelia Earhart, was first female pilot to fly across the Atlantic Ocean for which she received the U.S. Distinguished Flying Cross. Amelia Earhart fondly known as "Lady Lindy," is often remembered as an American aviation pioneer and author. Amongst other notable achievements, Amelia wrote a few best-sellers describing her flying experiences and was involved in the establishment of an organisation for female pilots: "The Ninety-Nines".

Amelia Earhart, mysteriously disappeared on July 2, 1937 while flying over the Pacific Ocean, during an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight of the globe in a Purdue-funded Lockheed Model 10-E Electra. Amelia Earhart was legally declared dead in 1939.
